Wuxi Leadon Electronics Co., Ltd., a
leading pressure sensor manufacturer from China, has officially broken ground
on its first overseas facility in Batu Kawan Industrial Park, Penang,
with an investment of RM100 million.
The first phase will see the construction of a four-storey facility spanning over 10,000 square feet, expected to be completed by Q2 2026. The plant will create over 200 job opportunities, with projected annual revenue exceeding RM200 million.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who officiated the groundbreaking ceremony, stated that this investment strengthens Penang’s position as a regional hub for precision engineering, automotive electronics, and high-value manufacturing. It also enhances Leadon’s ability to serve the growing Southeast Asian automotive and industrial markets.
“Despite global geopolitical shifts, the long-term outlook for the semiconductor industry remains strong. By 2030, the global market is projected to reach USD 1 trillion. Penang continues to play a vital role in the global semiconductor supply chain.”
In 2023, Penang approved RM17.3 billion in manufacturing investments, with RM13.8 billion from foreign direct investments (FDI). The electrical & electronics (E&E) sector alone attracted RM7.8 billion, placing Penang among Malaysia’s top three investment destinations.
Mr. Zhou Wenbo, Director of Leadon
Electronics, shared the company’s rationale for choosing Penang:
“Penang stood out for its robust
infrastructure, skilled talent pool, and long-term vision. It’s an ideal base
for our global expansion, and we’re committed to growing with the local
ecosystem.”
With a customer base across Malaysia,
Europe, and North America, Leadon’s Penang facility marks a strategic step in
its international journey—reinforcing Penang’s role as a key node in the
global high-tech manufacturing landscape.
